Emma first created this image and then invented different textures and patterns to fill each of the shapes in with color pencil. This drawing may first appear to be a doodle but actually quite the opposite. Texture is one of the Elements of Art; I tell my students that all patterns have a texture but not all textures have a pattern. There are different kinds of textures: (actual (real), invented (implied) and simulated (realistic). This is such a successful vibrant drawing.
