Textured Fox by Cailyn Paccico

This drawing may first appear to be a doodle but actually quite the opposite.  Cailyn put much care and thought into her picture. This drawing is part of a series that my students do to learn about texture and pattern.  Texture is one of the Elements of Art, all patterns have a texture but not all textures have a pattern.  There are different kinds of textures: (actual (real), invented (implied) and simulated (realistic).   Cailyn first had to come up with a subject and then invent textures for each of her shapes.  Some of the textures have patterns either in the design or the color.  This delightful drawing is whimsical and colorful.
